It's not too different from the speed of other ores though.

Mining transports for P-scrap factions are superior to mining transports for ore factions both in combat and capacity. People hauling scrap are also less likely to be pirated than people hauling ore. A corporate transport full of ore was always the "juicy" victim for pirates.

Exactly. The problem isn't in the pricing of the route, but in the people who actually haul it. Rather than screwing over the route for all factions involved, we need to discourage a single faction from hauling it.
Allow me to inform you that this has just made scrap mining for ALG and DSE completely pointless.

The insanely high P-scrap price we had for a while was starting to offset that image.

But it's not insanely high. For the route you take it's quite balanced. People are just jumping on the fact that Premium Scrap appears to be insanely lucractive because of it's high sell price. It's got a pretty balanced profit/sec fyi.

P-scrap routes have some wonderful back-trades as well.

True, but that is balanced out as they are a contraband.

Additionally, it is scrap, after all, it wouldn't make much sense for it to be so much more valuable than diamonds, gold, etc. Scrap simply isn't supposed to be as profitable.

Premium Scrap. We're talking about ultra rare and lucrative components. The items that people would pay to obtain, the items that are very difficult to find normally because they aren't necessarily easy to get, however they can be found amongst the Premium Scrap fields.

I think the new P-scrap prices are fine. I was making way too much money before.

Or were you though? You don't really notice the small details with profit/sec when trading.

However, to make these routes still worth doing, contraband on the backroutes (and contraband in general) will need a little boost; smugglers need the boost anyway for the extra risk they take.

Perhaps. I'd like to see things get balanced properly first though.

After all, scrap is supposed to be the junkers' cover business, while we make our real money through less legal means.

True in a sense, however we're called Junkers for a reason. I don't see why we should cripple our main export.
