There's been a lot of threads about D&D alignment and a lot of answers as to why it isn't applicable to Disco.

Haven't seen any. And D&D alignment IS applicable to every roleplay universe.

I like this fluid approach, rather than the boxed-in approach of nine or so set alignments.

That's your own mindset, because the alignment system is very fluid indeed if it's represented as a plane with two axes rather than that boxed nine alignments. Every single faction from Disco could be placed somewhere on that plane and that would probably accurately represent their actual alignment.
