Nobody starts with the "right" foot every time. Sure, there have been some setbacks about your group, but do not let that deter you.
From my experience in encountering you guys, both as friendly (Battleship.Melinda/LNS-Mountain.King) and hostile (RNC-Westerwelle/RNC-Klaus), I have noticed a steady increase in your group's quality, both in shooting and role play.
Leaving aside the bit of hate some of the fellow players who posted here, such as Lythrilux - who's doing the very same thing on untagged pirates (as in not pirating his fellow JM| friends), I am pretty sure you guys are on the right track. If you want to help your pirate friends, just make some pirate ships. Those are as good as the Navy ones to ruin the opposition (Scylla rocks for that matter).
Where's will to improve, there is hope. And where is hope, there will be results. I have faith in you guys that you will revitalize the Liberty Navy a whole lot more than I or anyone else can at this moment.
And a friendly suggestion, if I may. Try to use a bit more balanced fleet (if you're flying with 6 battleships in a war, you'll probably lose - you have no CD, for example), not just bombers (Jack O'Neill - hello fellow Stargate SG1 fan ) and battleships.
