Chapter 1

Jason James Kalvin, son of Interspace Captain Matthew Kalvin, was born on Newark Station in 797 A.S. He followed his father into the commerce business and by the age of 18 was shipping high-risk, high-value cargo. After four years of rising within their ranks he was contracted by DSE to deliver important supplies to Project Looking Glass, and given command of a CT-69 Crane, callsign Icarus-IV.

One fateful day in 819 A.S., disaster struck. A squadron of 5 pirate bombers appeared out of the fog in Kansas, promising death if Jason didn’t drop his cargo: a prototype fusion core for the [REDACTED] at [REDACTED]. Upon his refusal the bombers began their attack, and the battle raged for hours as laser fire from escorts and pirates alike illuminated the Turtle Creek Nebula. As the battle drew ever closer to the system’s star a lucky shot demolished one of the links on the Icarus-IV, separating the cryo-gas pod containing the reactor. The pirates quickly departed with their booty, leaving Jason and his crew all but stranded in the desolate system of Kansas.

As the ship drifted slowly through space, Jason repeatedly attempted to make distress calls. Hours turned to days as the crew of the Icarus-IV rationed the remaining food. Finally, after 3 days of floating through space, the receiver burst to life. “Well, someone looks in need of a few repairs.” Needless to say, Jason and the crew were immensely grateful to their rescuer, Kamir of the ITS. Wearied from his experiences, Jason applied for a position within this company in hope of a quieter life, and Kamir readily agreed upon seeing his qualifications. Jason currently captains the ITS]-Whirlwind, a CT-73(m) Stork.
