Did that many, MANY times. No matter what AV will you have, you'll always have some viruses on PC. Always. No matter what. And I'm speaking it from both experience AND told by a very skilled computer technician and engineer that used to set up my PC in the past. In fact many of such people agree that AV software became very... unreliable.
Viruses, malware, adware, will always find a way to get to your PC, even if you have those. That's why I told you to check (or ask someone to do so) to close some ports in your PC.
You need common sense here, of course. Don't go through porn sites (much... if you really need too) and such other strange or shady websites and you'll be fine. As I said, my PC is 3 years straight without any problems. In the next vacations it will be 4th year. Spybot and Anti-Malware do their job perfectly.
There's one flaw though. Keep as long as you can with AV. When everything fails and you'll need to format the PC, do it my way.
