RP v. ID

There's another question that comes from it, relation between ID's and hired Freelancers.

Player "A" with unlawful ID "X" hires a Mercenary. (Freelancer ID).
Player "B", that carries unlawful ID "X" comes in and decides to either kill or pirate that Mercenary.

Player "A" is dissatisfied with that and decides that he isn't going to watch like the employee whom he paid money to do something simply dies.

Is player "A" with unlawful ID "X" allowed to fire at player "B" to protect his merc? Or is Player's "B" attack on Player's "A" mercenary equals attacking Player "A" ?

Why I'm mentioning Unlawful ID's here - it's because those usually have the "can destroy/pirate various stuff in their ZoI" line.
