The Lynx and Templar have different advantages and disadvantages. I'm confident I'm a better Lynx pilot than a Templar pilot, but there are people who can work miracles in the Templar. BloogaL has repeatedly handed my [rear end] to me while I was flying an Odin and he was flying a shotgun Templar, while the Odin certainly is an extremely strong ship in its current state. And he's not the only one.
One very notable thing that isn't immediately clear when looking at the Templar is that it's got amazing weapon placement. All the gun mounts are centrally located meaning that the ship can get great accuracy against just about any ship shape, while something like the Lynx has more spread-out (horizontally) weapon mounts that are more accurate at close ranges against shapes like the Eagle, but less accurate against (amusingly) "compact" ships such as the Templar.
All in all, though, the Gallic and Bretonian snubs are sufficiently closely-matched that pilot skill is by far the most important factor in determining which side wins a snub fight.
