Vincent Morrow stood behind the of The Quarry Hill Inn watching the newscast broadcasting the start of Kusari’s surprise attack and the fall of LD-14, Stokes Mining Facility and the retreat of the Battleship Derby.The Queens men were no where near prepared for the assault, and casualties were high.

Vincent had lived his entire life on Leeds, he’d spent the last five years working as a loader for Gateway Shipping, saving every credit he could to open the Quarry Hill Inn two years before. His bar had quickly become popular, a weird mix of the Leeds working class and foreign traders passing through. He’d stuck a deal with a group of Junkers operating out of Trafalgar, and they made sure he always had liquor and beer you couldn’t easily find elsewhere in Bretonia

He looked around the bar and saw everyone glued to either the newscast or their tablets no doubt following the news on social media, this was the first large scale attack on Bretonia that anyone could remember, and nothing was going to be the same. He saw a group of Kusari businessmen sitting at a corner table, part of him knew they didn’t know the attacks were going to happen, but still he found a rage building in his gut, quickly feeding off the panic of watching his home being invaded.

He reach under the bar and grabbed the shotgun strapped to the underside, he pulled it up and the loud unmistakable sound of a round chambering brought a quick silence over the bar.

“You lot in the corner!” he screamed aiming the gun towards the businessmen. “Ya bastards got five seconds to get yer sorry ‘ides the ‘eck outta my damn bar!”

The local patrons all cheered in agreement, as some of them stood to drag them out of the bar.

It had been a little over a year since Kusari started the war. The Quarry Hill Inn had gone from being the chill care free bar on the corner to a meeting house for men and women taking arms against Kusari. They tended to make use of tactics that under normal circumstances would see them listed as criminals under The Queens laws, but with the war waging on, there were no tears shed for the countless number of Kusari traders destroyed.

“We lost a group in Kyushu this morning, the last report we had from them was that they’d taken down a Samura convoy, and were heading home through the Taus with their spoils.” Said a man sitting at the bar drinking a beer.

“Ya figure they got caught by the KSP or KNF? ya know they got the taus pretty well blocked off. Ya think they made it to Freeport Six? Even them Kusari ain’t bold ‘nough to mess with the Zoner NFZ.” Vincent said, trying to hide the worry in his voice.

He knew the business they were in was dangerous, but the fact was that their little group was more of a family than anything else, and it never got easier seeing your brothers and sisters leave knowing that there was a chance they’d never make it back.

“Not likely, it was Squad 12.” The man said looking at Vincent.

Squad 12 was somewhat famous at the Quarry Hill Inn, they were notorious for the fact that they targeted military convoys over trade groups. They were unbelievably skilled at taking out the Kusari military, and the odds of them getting caught and going down were slim to none.

“That ain’t like them at all, yer right. Send a group of scouts an see if they can’t find ‘em.”
Vincent said, now no longer able to hide the worry in his voice.

Just then, the radio cut out for a breaking news announcement, an unknown naval attack force had come out of the outer taus, completely destroying Kusari Forces in the Taus and bearing down towards Bretonia.
