Ze'ev Barak



The Ze'ev we all know and love, was born Naato Togachi on Planet Kyushu 35 years ago. His parents were farmers, owning a small farm, where they grew orange trees and tomatoes. Naato grew up working on the farm and going to the local school. He was not a big city person, and on his assorted trips to metropolitan areas, he always felt a little overwhelmed. As a child Naato spent much of his time with the workers on the farm, helping in their assorted tasks where he could. As he matured he became a veracious reader, consuming anything he could get his hands on, from kids books and novels, to farm equipment manuals and software instructions. He began fixing odd things around the farm and by the time he was 15 he had developed quite a talent for fixitry. In high school, one of his teachers, noticing his passion for reading began to bring him in books that went part of the curriculum. Ancient texts by men with names like Plato, Clausewitz, Begin, Paine, and Sun Tzu. Naato was amazed by the depth and breadth of what he was being exposed to, taking ever book and reading it two and three times over, analyzing every twist and nuance till he understood it completely.



When Naato entered college, he was forced to deal with his uncomfortably with large groups. Naato had been admitted to the Naval Academy on New Tokyo, and for a person who had never been more than 300 kilometers from where he was born, going to another planet was an amazing journey. With his bags loaded on the shuttle, Naato was about to go into space for the first time. Looking down upon Kyushu, we gained a new respect for the duality of the human spirit, the insignificance of a single human in the greater universe, along with the amazing power a single person could have. His teacher had given him one last book to read before he went off to the Naval Academy, he had brought it to read on the shuttle, the book, "The Prince" written by an ancient Italian by the name of Nichols Machiavelli, and it would impact him more than any book he had ever read.
