Boosting Away From A Fight

I'm replying to these guys here, but for everyone else:


I hear a lot of different things about what constitutes 'running'.
Some people say outside of weapons range, some say, the point at which one person gives up shooting back and just runs, so I'm asking, admins/anyone else what exactly constitutes as running other than engaging cruise?

It seems kinda weird that jumping through a jump hole, for example, if you have backup in the next system, counts as running, but thrustering off waaaaay out of weapons range, doesn't count :S

When did I ask for one? This'll be my last post here, dont want to hijack the thread because I really do want to know, how far is 'running away'. If you want to discuss this more, PM me, chopper, you have my MSN.

I don't know why he asked me for help... If I had killed you guys and he was still there, I would have taxed half his cargo, Maybe he had corsairs green and thought I owed him my assistance or something.

We fought near Cadiz, suddenly 10-12 NPCs spawn near there so we try and boost away from Cadiz to lose them.

2. "farming NPCs" Well when we have 10++NPCs on us.. which take down lvl 10 shield in under 2seconds if we stop dodging.... are we not allowed to kill them? And they are far from "one shot-die" NPCs

Yea all of you were boosting away at 200 when I'm limited to 140. Haven't you run away from the fight? Your force couldn't handle the gunboat+NPC, so you retreated. You killed NPC, OK i suppose that makes sense, then you all tractored in the bots/bats dropped. I saw your bomber getting from like 10 bots to 40.

you, then you start at it again saying that hiding from gunfire behind the Hessian base is somehow bad.

3. Tough, get a fighter. I see absolutely no rule or RP problem with fighter/bomber hiding behind a rock. If you are pissed that you can't hit us... get a fighter yourself or at least some fighter escort.

I don't remember exactly what I said, but I don't think I said something like that, I said something (in RP) taunting him for being a coward, i think.. but again not sure, but i'm pretty sure I wasn't saying that's against the rules. I called him a coward, in RP i believe (but maybe it wasnt), I wasn't saying that was OORP or against the rules.

1. "running away"... everytime you lose your shield, you start heading into one direction never turning back... if we stop you head on up to some 6k and then turn back.. with your shield at least 50%.

I was the only bomber there, and you were on me all the time. Once I shoot your shield, you run in to the mine field. Fine, I don't care, it's a nice and legit tactic.

Haven't you flown a gunboat before? When fighting a bomber, you go in rearview, try to dodge, and shoot back, when bomber drops his snova, his energy is empty, and you have a few seconds when he can't shoot it again, at this moment the gunboat Ekills and turns around, so he can go at the bomber head on.

It's not my fault that you didn't pursue, as soon as I was pointed at you I thrustered towards you. A gunboat thrusters 140, a fighter 200, you cannot possibly say I ran away from you by thrustering, problem is you didn't pursue.

And about mine field, sorry I wasn't even paying attention to the mines, I'm rarely in a fighter in om5, so I don't know how much they affect mines, but can't you dodge them pretty easily?



My complaint that fight was the following.
2 hessian fighters, 1 hessian bomber vs 1 corsair fighter, 1 corsair gunboat.
I was trying to shoot everyone, i asked fighter to try to keep hessian bomber at bay.
After some fighting hessian bomber is near out of bots. He thrusters, I have 1 screenshot of you at 8.5K away, that's the furthest I've got a screen of.
I pursue him for a bit, but obviously can't catch up, I turn around and pay attention to the other 2 fighters.
During this fight, the bomber returns, but doesn't engage. Stays at 2.5K.
I assumed (because I thought he had 'left' the fight, he was either. 1. watching the rest of the fight, or 2. trying to taunt me into attacking again, at which point he can join the fight again.

So I ignore, and concentrate on the 2 fighters. the corsair fighter dies. And at this point the bomber rejoins the fight... and starts attacking me. He intentionally ran away, then came back, but didn't engage until the fighter, which was harassing him was taken out.

I won that fight, I got the bomber to no hull so they retreated.
I won, but I was still outraged by the tactics used by the hessians. I'm not a sore loser, but regardless of whether I win or lose, tactics like that, whether they're legal or not, piss me off.

Basically what you're saying is, we used these tactics to try to win, we don't care about fair play, we want to win. And it disgusts me. As does this attack on me off topic on a thread when I'm asking a serious question.

Weren't you sanctioned for boosting away before chopper??
How far away were you in this case?

Sorry, but re-engagement is -not- cruising away from a fight. It is when you -leave- a fight.

You dont think running to 8k away is leaving the fight?
