If they remove POBs and defend themselves with battleships, you'll whine about the battleships. When they remove the battleships and they defend themselves with fighter patorls, you'll whine about their fighter patrols. When they defend themselves by running away, you'll whine about how they run away.
So after they put a whole lot of effort into building a POB with continued effort of maintaining it, they get to mine without being blown up by a guy flying a bomber.
So what?
It's not like money is generated by dumping ore on a POB. They still have to ship it. Because they put the effort into building and maintaining a POB, and they put effort into mining, they will make more profit than they would for simply buying a commodity and trading it at equal risk.
