Microsoft did release additional security updates for XP after April 8th of last year, but this does not mean the OS is anywhere near secure!
If you continue to use XP after the end of life date you're subject to all of the other vulnerabilities/exploits in XP that weren't ever patched, along with new ones that develop in the wild. Even if you have an antivirus program thats still operational, it is highly unwise to continue using XP for any sort of personal/financial tasks. Microsoft is still offering limited support for enterprise-level versions, or runs that one on POS/Kiosks, but none the less it really boils down to how easy it is to hack XP verses a newer OS like 7 or 8.1.

Someone also mentioned XP ran better than 7, and I would completely disagree. The speed of a computer depends on a number of variables besides whats on the software level, like your CPU, RAM, Mobo, HDD, etc.

I'd also agree with Explorer's statement that 7 is a great replacement for XP--its the most similar UI, it doesnt crash and burn horribly like the abomination that is Windows Vista, and it doesnt tweak out to the level that 8 & 8.1 do when theres bugs with UEFI, Update Installation, bugs w/ metro apps, etc.

But don't listen to me, I'm a computer technician, not a doctor >.>
