So it's better to have a dead ID that no one uses and a faction no one cares about?
Do you remember Dieters avatar? Do you remember old SCRA?
How do you do "revolution roleplay" without firing shots?
Come on, we all (should) know that RP and PVP are one and the same.
What's there to be so apprehensive about?
I mean no one is trying to take the talky-talky away from you, you can keep RP'ing the way you want to your heart's content - you'll just be giving others the chance to do their roleplay the way they see fit. Win-win.
Also, imagine a forum and a server where people didn't base 9/10 of their arguments on conjecture. A community where people read and related to what was actually written, rather than what they imagine the other person "really meant". "They simply want to pew" - what? Have you actually asked? "He just wants to shoot everything without roleplay" - ok... "Abuse, abuse!!!" It's sooooo tiresome.
Actually, I'll include an anecdote to illustrate how mind-numbingly counter-productive the "they just want to pew" notion is. I haven't played for quite a while, but the other day I reinstalled. I "just wanted to go pew" as you would probably say, so I logged a GRN VHF with a buddy, and we started our patrol and got into a lot of fights. Eventually we ended up keeping 4-5 enemies positively entertained an hour or so; they had quality time too shooting their mortal enemies according to their kudos; and we represented our faction on a patrol, just like our role dictates. To me, that's the perfect gameplay: Everyone has fun while representing their roles, while providing gameplay to a host of other players. That's why I tend to play the badguy and put myself into situations where it will be gratifying for my opponent to kill me - it provides me with more interactions of different kinds, and in return I supply a target people feel good about shooting down. If we were all playing the hero, there'd be no game to play.
But I guess that's "ohsobadnorpomg". The way I see it, a lot of you guys are indirectly sabotaging the game you claim you love with your reluctance to understand and accept the nature and relation between PVP and playing a role in the game.
Back when there were more pro's on the server, some of them would be accessible for duels; they'd have known ships and they'd be fairly easy to find (Black-7, I'm looking at you!); they'd play fair, and that was a community service they provided but didn't have to. Ultimately, it's the little things that we do for each other that keeps the server afloat and gives us reason to log, and in-game in many cases honorable PVP is so much more of a "gift" to your fellow players than countless lines of half-baked storytelling is - not to mention how the PVP nurtures the underlying narrative of the scenario and story we are playing out so much better than witty remarks or random chatter.
tl;dr: Could we once and for all do away with the assumption that PVP is bad?
