BBC: MP Jameson: Constructing Canary Wharf was a mistake

BBC: In other news, our BBC colleague David McWilson had an exclusive 15-minute interview with MP Jameson of the Federalist Party. Among other things Ms Karen Jameson mentioned her concerns about Canary Wharf Station. Here is a part of her interview.

MP Jameson: After a decade in which Bretonia was in war with two different Houses, the royal coffers are admittedly empty, inflation is running in an all-time high and we are deep in debt both internally and on foreign entities such as the Interspace Commerce.

Dear McWilson you may think of Liberty's economic aid, which I agree, it is very important. However, let's face the reality, let's review the numbers. Liberty has also entered the war. The time when they will have to cut their aid will come sooner or later. Let us not forget that Leeds, the industrial heart of our Kingdom has also been lost. If the invaders are not been defeated or at least pushed back from Planet Leeds in the coming future, I don't think it would be long before we go bankrupt.

Please do not consider my thoughts as defeatism, but as a probable scenario. The Federalist Party with its participation in the coalition government aims to address issues in both the coming future but also on a long-term basis. We all know what would happen if Bretonia declares bankruptcy, BBC has hosted many analysts throughout the years who commented on that. Subsequently, saving money is a key Federalist policy from any activity which does not directly benefit the war effort. That way we can last much longer without foreign aid than we currently can.

Canary Wharf Station, a modular space station in the orbit of Planet New London is a very good example. Construction of space stations is a huge expenditure even for Houses which are not in a war state. Borderworld Exports is going to spend billions of credits constructing a station which will not in any way help Bretonia in a short-term basis. On the other hand, these billions could have been spent on expanding its trade fleet, providing better equipment for the ExSec or at least by performing repair work for the war fleet.

David McWilson: Another modular station, the Tower of London, is also very close to Canary Wharf...

MP Jameson: That is correct Mr McWilson. I have reviewed Canary Wharf's application and it does not offer anything at the moment that the Tower cannot provide already. Constructing it was a mistake and only time will show how fatal it was.
