The overarching question there was whose interests we protect? The people who have honed their skills and want a balanced system to show them off, where skill actually matters and where they can come out on top during player vs player combat? But if so, players who lack said skill want to feel protected or at least given a chance to either: 1) not get involved or 2) have an equal opportunity to escape without becoming a blue or 3) fly ships which are pvp compatible and with a (relatively) low skill requirement.
Which side are we protecting now? Which side is Disco built around?
I think it's a false contradiction. It's easy to stay out of fights. People can join factions for protection. Fly in numbers. I always wanted to be someone's henchman but no one ever took me up on that offer. In fact, whenever I fight bads I let them attack me first (usually). Some of the most PVP- and gank-eager players are bads with cloaks and torps/missiles. They are the same people that will rather crash into zone-21's defences or suicide on their own mines. Try making an unlawful ship with a nub-like name and dangle it in front of 5th and watch the frenzy. I think this problem solely exist in the minds of bads, and that they are really the only ones who have issues with giving out their blue.
