• Character biography:

Massucci is the epitome of the Outcast ideal. The product of a tryst between his plantation-owning father and his concubine mother, Massucci has always been only a step above slavery himself. Massucci takes a philosophical pride in his own parentage, describing himself as the union between Malta’s hands, and Malta’s head - the arms, and was quick to take up arms bounty hunting escaped slaves across the the undulating yellow earth of the maltese steppes. Violently devoted to the Maltese cause, Dante is known to have killed a man who once accused him of slovenliness at his father’s estate. Dante won his nickname through his bravery in the northern Biagio estate rebellion of 813, where an insufficiently guarded slave cohort succeeded in overthrowing the local garrison and murdering their controlling family, the slaves threatening to raze the entirety of the estate’s harvest unless granted a ship to liberate themselves with and free passage out of Maltese airspace. The local Maltese administration recommended seeding the estate with aerially dropped mines to cull the rebellion before it could spread - Dante instead lead a detachment of local militia into a heroic assault on the compound, resulting in the rebellion’s rapid suppression and the near-complete recovery of the entire harvest. Noting his enterprise, Dante was rewarded with the right to seek employment in Malta’s merchant caste, and to thus better his lot amongst the stars. However, like his namesake, Dante had to move through hell in order to find enlightenment. Dante received several shrapnel wounds during battle to his stomach and face, and whilst his physical recovery was rapid he still suffers from frequent onslaughts of phantom pain syndrome. Most insidiously, Dante has started to suffer from the slow tape-worm of anorexia, paranoid about the prospect of exerting stress on his mangled insides.

Dante is a Catholic fundamentalist, believing Sirius to the the New Eden and Malta more specifically the New Jerusalem promised by biblical legend. He posits the objective of the Maltese people is sacrosanct and blessed by the Almighty - and as a descendent of God’s chosen people he should labour to improve the divine work. Dante is an open homosexual and is forty four years old according to the Maltese calendar.

• Character's reason for joining Blood Roses:

Dante is fond of the Bloodrose Syndicate, as his own small plantation often exports to the ‘Rose since they have a reputation for paying top dollar for any excess yield from the autumn harvests. Dante also has a natural propensity towards violence - not because he is a particularly aggressive man, but because he is a pragmatic one, and the old adage of “no man, no problem” rings as true for the Nazione Maltese as it did for Stalin, which matches line-for-line the operating procedure of the Syndicate. He also believes that the Syndicate’s tendency to plant roses amongst the dead is a wonderfully debonair touch - there was never truly any doubt in his mind as to who he desired to fight and die for.
