You loose the point. It's just meant for inside the system.
It's not like you can set Waypoints from New London into Gallia and the ship will just Autopilot everything. If you go AFK while this, your ship will basicly just stop at the next system until you set waypoints again, so you have to set waypoints on all systems you jumped in once again. I don't realy see a problem in that, realy, what don't you people understand?

It's a disadvantage, see? But for those alternate routes to avoid the sun and all like priest mentioned, it's just in one system. You realy wont loose sight in that as you have to set the waypoints again once you jump into another system. It would just serve as an easier tool inside systems heading to another Jumphole.
Like you said, NPCs could disuprt you, players could disrupt you, I don't realy see an abuse in that, more like a Risky choice if you do that.
@Techpriest Dude... You do know that on each waypoint the ship basicly stops and cruises again right? That's how it's supposed to work, but it doesn't.
@DragonRider nope I didn't mean dock on trade lanes and stations, all I meant was continue "Go-to" after next Waypoint, it's as if you press "Go-to" again, but automaticly.
