Rules ALSO state that if you depart the fight you are running away ... you don't have to be in cruise ... if you dock, enter a trade lane, hit cruise, etc, you have disengaged and are considered fleeing. Thus ... you must leave the system and not engage the guy(s) / gal(s) you were fighting for 4 hours.
Also, using thrusters in this way normally will get you well out of gun range quickly ... if you thrust more than 2k away from your attacker ... its shield running if nothing else. Do not turn back and re-engage.
EDIT: Don't know what the distance really is ... since its not in stone ... but 3k is the max range for most CDs.
So ... what can be done? If you are in a ship that thrusts faster than another and you thrust away ... you're running away and gotta leave the system and avoid your attackers for 4 hours. Simple and sweet. If you wanna stick around and fight, don't leave the fight area.
This is the point- when they've firmly established they're running away, yes, you can cruise after them. However, they need to be outside CD range at least before you can hit cruise- believe me, I've ended up >2k away from a Talarca under thrust just trying to stay alive. At first opportunity I turned around and went in for another pass, but he still considered me in the battle (and was actively shooting me).
The last bit confuses me- we've established that if you run by any shape or form outside of combat, you need to leave system as though you hit cruise. I was pretty sure this thread was about cruising to catch up to thrusters. Now, I consider CD range a good arbitrary distance, since if you can still shoot the enemy you're still in the battle. Scanner range is another distance established by admin, at that point you are definitely not in the battle. So, either we put some arbitrary barrier inbetween, or just have it evaluated case by case- most of the time, someone is either blatantly abusing the rules or isn't. Establishing something in stone facilitates that, which isn't good.
Oh yeah, shield running implies flitting at the edge of weapons range to recover shield- if they just head out and pop back, they won't have too much shield recovered and are probably just finishing their pass. It's really obvious if someone is shieldrunning, and probably the same kind of twit who'll commit other infractions.
Now, if we can get a nice quote by admin saying 'weapons range = you're still fighting' and then leave it case by case,I think this is settled pretty well and can get a nice chubb mode.
