True, but you still have to consider that this game isnt being made by an established company either. It isnt Bioware or Blizzard or Bungie, the whole thing was put together almost like a group making an indie game. What they've achieved so far without having a publisher or a prearranged team is amazing, and more than makes up for the fact that they've fallen behind schedule.
As I mentioned before, diablo 3 took 11 years to make. That's a top down game without any intense physics or super-realistic graphics. It was made by a company (Blizzard) that has made dozens of games before and has a near limitless amount of funding and a huge standing fanbase that would buy the game no matter what state it was released in. It still took them 11 years with all the resources at their disposal. We're only going on 3 years with CIG and star citizen now, and we've already got a playable alpha that incorporates relatively realistic physics, extreme levels of detail, and is essentially several game types in one. This isnt just a spaceship simulator, there's first person shooter combat as well. There's ground vehicles, even. Star Citizen is aiming to be a game that anyone from any genre will enjoy.
