I personally feel dirty engaging someone without any rp whatsoever.I usually issue a vague system chat message to let everyone know there's a squid in system, then another message when about to decloak. However...

As much as I hate it when any of the K'Hara members engage people without RP.. (I still do hate it)
The fact that people do the very same to us, sorta makes it so I can't complain terribly much.

If I reported everyone that engaged my nomads without rp, I would have no time to play. It happens virtually every time I log in, even by members of factions neutral to K'Hara. The ability to retaliate with the same viciousness makes me feel a little safer and less frustrated by the behavior.


As for the cloak balance: (In my experience) Nomads aren't the only players that can decloak and insta nuke you. And the little one liner most cap ships spew out as they decloak-murder you isn't any different from a completely silent engage. A lot of the complaints here can be applied to all cloaks, not just nomcloaks. There's a noise that alerts you to cloaked ships approaching so that you can become evasive, and the ship that freshly decloaks has no shields and has to spend resources to raise them.

"But nom don't need battries for cloak"
(I am told) the downside to this is that the cloak for nomad is a lot slower than battery cloaks, so a nomad is more or less all in when they decloak.

"But this is a no win situation"
I feel the same way when an indie whatever battleship decloak one-liner nukes me. This is not a nomad specific problem.


There are a few tricks you can use to get most nomads to ignore you.

• Carry some Cardimine
  Don't carry artifacts
  Remember that non nomad cloaks are made by murdering nomads. I would be upset if a part of your ship was made of my people's corpses.
  Attempt to communicate with the nomad first, learn some pretentious nomspeak, convince one nomad you're cool and the idea ripples through the mindshare.
  
  

Final note:

In the engagements I've been apart of; activity, player interaction and cooperation within that system skyrocketed to levels I haven't seen since Rheinland and Liberty were connected. Even if your lone trader is decloak-ganked, players have usually banned together and taken us out shortly after, allowing said gankee to return.
