I don't know much about the inner workings of the leather tanning biz, but there are certain industries that simply attract stoners...but the thing about stoners is, you can't paint them all with one brush. Granted, the pothead stereotype exists because there are enough stereotypical stoners in the world to justify it, but to be blunt, if your dad is firing stoners on a weekly basis for coming to work high & effin' things up, I can't help but be curious about the hiring practices combined with the worth of the positions being filled. What is it about the job that seemingly attracts a regular stream of idiots?

When I was in my 20's I had a few stoner jobs. one in nationwide concert ticket sales & the others in tech support...but in those jobs, there was no risk of causing harm to anyone; so getting high with co-workers before shift & during lunch breaks was pretty widespread in both industries. We were paid well, we enjoyed the lax atmosphere & because we were high alot of the time, inter-office friction between co-workers was never really a big issue...plus, most of us made sure to do our jobs well so that we wouldn't get canned & screw up a good thing. I admit, I was at the right place at the right times for those jobs & I make no bones about it...prior to those gigs, I screwed up ALOT of my earlier jobs in my late teens. Not because I was a stoner, but because I was immature & just starting out on my own & had alot to learn about how to live independently.

I digress, but my point is, I reckon there's something about the age range of the stoners your dad complains about, and/or the quality of the job itself that makes them not care enough to want to do good enough work to keep it.

Happy stoners in stoner jobs make for happy workers that learn moderation when necessary
