The Dark Cycle

I only got a good look at her when she lowered her scarf. She stared at me, with shadowy eyes that shot past my facade. Behind her cloak she hid strands of dark hair. Green perhaps? Her skin was paler than normal, and gently dusted with snow. She held a gun and my life in one hand, and my escape in the other. She placed herself between me and the door, to stop me from running. It's not as if I would run, I thought.

She asked about him, Cristofer. His limp body falling to the floor flashed before me.

"Cristofer? I was a friend. Found about his recent death and decided to take up the case myself." I took a deep breath. You can't stop now. "And you're right, I'm no ordinary policeman. I've been trying to wedge myself off of government work recently, but his death just threw me back into it. Gave a sudden spur of initiative, I suppose."
