Name: James "Backfire" Vail Age: 25 (798 A.S.) Birthplace: Barrier Gate Station Biography: Spending much of his youth as a second pilot to his father, Andrew Vail, on a trader vessel "Apophis", James eventually became a mercenary, fighting for causes he didn't believe in, and reasons he never truly understood. During that time he earned his rather unfortunate callsign when, on what was supposed to be an average escort mission, he, outnumbered and outgunned, distracted two Outcasts long enough for their rather liberal usage of Nuclear Mines to, ehmmm, dramatically "backfire" on them. However, soon the arrival of House Gallia changed everything. Many times James had run-ins with Gallic Royal Crown pursuing independent traders delivering supplies to Tau-44 and Leeds. Outraged at the loss of life of honest men much like his own father at the hands of Gallic Royal Navy and fed up with the life of a mercenary, he turned his gaze towards the Colonial Republic, which arrived during his childhood and was forced to resettle into Coronado by his sworn enemies. Bitter at the treatment of Freelancers and Crayterians alike at the hands of Sirius at large (and moreso Gauls), he realised that something that he was looking for all along (justice and vengeance against those for whom a life of an average man was nothing) now wasn't that far from his birthplace. Realising this, James capitalized on the rights given to him by the Section 5 of the first Article of the Laws of Crayter Republic, and pledged his life and experience to the most humane faction he came to know in the cold and unforgiving Sirius Sector.
