It would require NPC's supplying NPC bases with goods to keep them alive and running to produce another product that would be on its way somewhere else etc. Everything would have to be bound like that with every single station in the game as well as NPCs (which is impossible given that they are not a hard component of "economy" at all. They are there and that's it, don't really serve much of a purpose and despawn once they docked with gates, stations or even get out of range of player ships.
Stock marketing requires all of those factors to work together, like in X3. If it doesn't, a stock market is impossible to do.
in facts, the stock marketing require an active play of all. Just a reason in plus for play with the corporation: a "economic race"
