Helping newbies is one thing. It feels good for a new member to know that they can get help ingame and that Disco is a place where you can PM anyone ingame about a game related question and they will help you. Unlike other games where the only reply you get is a reference about your mother.

Anyone can help newbies, that is true. But not everyone can tutor them. I would never trust anyone but a specifically picked person to interact with newbies on a regular basis and introduce them to the game. Only because it is so goddamn easy to screw up and give the wrong impression. I used to do a lot of video-tutorials a few years back and one of the biggest problems I came across was accidentally misinforming a potential new player on how things work ingame, especially when it comes to interaction between players. Most new players do not think that if they are given suggestions or are given replies to their answers, they need to treat all information that comes from non-staff members with a pinch of -. That the person giving you the information can be biased or mistaken or outright wrong. Or in even worse cases - deliberately misinforming you.

This is what I mean when I say that I do not want Jonnywalker to be constantly interacting with newbies. But that being said, I would not allow any one single person who has not been approved by the staff to interact with new players and tutor them. The Angels as they are right now offer at least some quality control as to who gets to be the go-to guy for new players, but even that is a stretch.

Sadly, I do not see a fix to this either. There is no way we can simply choose who is in the right and gets to help anyone. People just do it and all we can hope is that they give the right impression and know what they are doing.

wait wait... let me explain how im helping... maybe some people thinking in the wrong way...

My main task, is not teaching about RolePlaying and rules... its teaching the basics, movements, keys, the use of diferent channels, how to mine, how fill up others, what they need.... those things. About rules and proper RolePlaying, I ALWAYS send them to www.discoverygc.com rules/guides, because some rules changing and not everybody know when those change (inclusive experimented players)

This is what I do with the newbies. I know well i cannot teach them about RolePlaying due I was constantly in Pennsylvania and recieving a lot of OORP chats from newbies, its not an easy task, in these cases i always drop a message about "//avoid smilies", "//use // at the beggining of the line for ooRP chat but avoid it in local/system" and need to use local because there are more than 2 newbies around outside from group...

I remember situations with 5 newbie miners around... when i said something in ooRP local, inmediatly somene Pm me "//keep oorp out from local" damit... there are 5 newbies around, i cannot use 5 private messages for saying the same to each one of them. Please understand that.

In several cases, those newbies around... wihtout knowledge about what is Private, what is local, where is Attention Required... sometimes in Pennsylvania is needed to ooRP in local till you get them inside a group... not always they accepting it, just because didnt noticed of that request and/or what that mean...

I repeat, i NEVER teach them about how properly RolePlaying, about this, i can only say them "This is a roleplay server, so nobody can attack others just for being red" for example... and send them to check the Rules card and website rules...

When i said about im teaching them about Roleplaying, I mean just explaining them it is not a PvP server and we got some rules ...

Of course, I advise them about [Angels]... and when there are some around, i sent them to they.

This is what i do there.
