Not a critizism to the event because it is only fair to have something for the Core side, too. I am definitely for it.
Thought has to be spent - however - on the consequences of this.
The event sets Core up to hunt down transports. Gameplay mechanism makes "blow them up" the only solution because if Core went to the length to escort a transport to their selling point, people would not sell there. Most would dock. Log off. Wait for a quiet time. Sell at Freeport.
Therefore, the only option is: blow them up, and either ignore the loot or get a transport to sell the loot. Realistically, it will be the first option in most cases - which is fine by the way.
What I am a little worried about is that this creates a situation in which Core can only perceived as a monstrosity. I know that Lyth always wanted Core to not be a white knight defending humanity, and that he loves the shady, dark, evil side of Core.... but: blowing up relief transport en masse does not paint you as "shady, dark, subtly evil", but as a monster.
I am currently debating with myself and my HQ how to react to the consequences of having transports on a humanitarian mission attacked.
Irply, things are pretty clear. Imagine a conflict party mass-executing UN relief convoys with military precision, stealing or destroying the goods. Leads to the point "monstrosity", which I think goes too far for even Core.
Oorply, gameplay mechanisms make the softer form of "impounding, selling at Core base" hard to put into reality. Very likely few players (except organised groups + heavy rp indies) would agree to roleplay that leads the to the Core selling point under duress (which would actually be a much better way than blowing things up, for every involved parts). However, as mentioned, it will only work with just a few people - so it is kind of understandable that the "blow them up" solution is prevailing.
I can't offer a solution, as I am still thinking about it myself, however I think this is a point worth thinking about. It would be bad to - at some point when it winds down - see that one is in a position that is very undesirable.
