Something also to keep in mind is a problem with how we remember those encounters. You remember encounters from the old days, because they stick out when compared over lengths of time. When you think about such roleplays, you are probably picturing a handful of very specific cases which you remember the most and it gives a wrong impression on how things were back then.
The quality and amount of roleplay has, generally, stayed the same. It is just that most of our older-standing community members cannot dedicate as much time to it anymore.
