There is little to no inherent risk when it comes to a lawsuit. That much we're 99.99999999999% safe on given how small and non-profit disco is.
The issue comes into play when it comes to policy: I brought this up because as I was last aware, there was the issue with the EVE icons that caused issues with ModDB. Last I checked, we get a fairly large number of new people from ModDB, so losing our ability to host a page there because we used someone else's IP would be an unfortunate series of circumstances.
Furthermore, there's really no point in having said characters there: sure it's worth a few laughs at first but we lose more than we gain by having it, and it honestly looks really tacky.
In short: we're all safer/more secure/ less sueable/ better off by not having copyrighted characters. It's a precaution and an exercise in upholding policy more than it is an actual response to any actual legal threat. The old icon worked fine and fit the bill for what it was needed for- don't fix what isn't broken.
