Exactly the last message is what i kind of have a problem with - not just about unique ship models but SRP on disco in general...
For the admin team - unique ships seem to be a "reward" for the player. I think that is a wrong approach. It begets an attitude of "you have to prove yourself" - and while i believe that it is not fundamentally wrong to ask for a few requirements (and also set some rules and limitations in terms of pvp balance of course) ... the process of GETTING a unique ship should be EASY.
It should - however - be monitored much closer what happens AFTER you got the ship. Owners of unique ships should be required to ... for example ... at least write a MONTHLY report/diary on the forum ... to showcase an ongoing storyline of the ship. (along with inactivity warnings if a player failed to do so... - like official faction activity)
ps.:
About Mon'Star - I played quite some time before he got the unique model. He did use the outcase cruiser before. I am often puzzled about how ppl state that his RP was "stellar" or "so awesome".
Encounters with Mon'Star were fun, because he was a FAIR terrorist/pirate (most of the time at least i guess) that was playing for BOTH sides to have fun. But his roleplay was simple and easy. (and i do not mean that in a negative way - it was simple enough for a majority of players to "get it" - opposed to overcomplex RP (*cough* some Nomads *cough*) that no victim actually comprehends.
But i would not build him a golden statue for outstanding roleplay. I would rather remember him as a fun guy with a good sense of fairness.
