It's the truth, though. You don't have to condone racism - jokingly done or not - and any other manner of hate speech to be able to acknowledge the simple fact that the internet is a wide and varied place, many corners of which are full of people you are not compatible with. Whether it's because they make racist or offensive jokes or are flat out assholes who will scream their throats raw telling you how awful you are is by the by - if you don't have a thick enough skin to handle the nasty people that you'll undoubtedly run into when you go online, then you should either not bother or tread very carefully.
I don't think you're either stupid enough or idealistic enough to suggest that anyone can reasonably expect to remain free of verbal abuse online, unless you've never played a multiplayer game in your life.
