The only issue is how to get new players a starting cash flow, You could have a unique minable commodity with up to 3 sell points for each house/sector of Sirius depending on where you start. Nothing too high, but not too low.
Well, how about this - many MMOs (yes, i know. evil word...) have newbie areas. I am thinking of "Tibia", which had a whole island dedicated to rookies ONLY. You had to reach a certain level to be able to leave the island and could never return. How about a star system like connecticut - a large mining area with great profits to get people started, until a certain level when yield drops to not-worth-it levels depending on player level (so people do not stay in that system forever), disabled cash commands, and an assortment of jumpgates that lead to certain star systems around sirius.
The /restart commands could give people the IFF and ID they want, but the bases in that system remained neutral and the restart would not move them through sirius.. The only weapons to be bought would be mining lasers so we dont have trolls ruining newcomers' experience. Somehow the options available to new players would need exposure, maybe through something like "Info signs" - non-dockable stations that transmit information.
It may sound like alot of work - but the return of inventing and developing a system like that may be worth it in the long run. And you could tackle this step-by-step, ofcourse.
What do you guys think about this? Does it seem viable or am I making a fool out of myself?
