Within and Without

The sudden arrival of the woman startled Gen. Flinching visibly as the door opened without so much as a simple knock, or so she thought, having been too immersed to hear it, she cast the unkempt lady a sour look as she spoke. "Waiting for an answer isn't something you do often, is it?" she asked ironically, her voice not belying the pounding of her heart that was still working off the adrenaline from the surprise. She took a closer look at the woman. It was probably one of her assistants or secretaries, though Gen had always been absolutely abysmal when it came to recognizing faces, and so she came up blank when trying to think of the uniformed woman's name. "It is also 'Administrator' and not Director. What are we? Bloody Rheinlanders?"

She snorted briefly. It wasn't so much that she considered herself to be a snide or rude person usually, but this girl had startled her and probably seen it, which did grate on her nerves and pride. Rising from her chair, Geneviève reached for a simple cane that had rested by the desk's side. Since her time with the Royal Navy, Gen had had a visible limp. The injury that had caused it had actually been the reason she had been discharged from the Royal Navy. "What's your name?" she asked her as she noticed that it appeared like the Outcast was avoiding to look at her. With a hand, Gen motioned for her to lead the way, figuring it was the best option right now. Given that she hadn't been here for very long, Gen got lost quite often and was too vain to ask someone for directions. This way, she could at least pretend like the girl was doing it because she wanted her to.
