Maggots are fly larvae, not worms. They eat the dead tissue so bacteria doesn't grow in it.
Unknown chemical content? Pfft. There is plenty of information that a doctor will give to you if you're smart enough to ask (daunting I know). My doctor happily printed out 15 pages of information regarding my condition, alternative treatment methods, the pills I was taking and any side effects I may suffer.

Yeah, I'm sure after you get cancer and read the small print on your chemotherapy you will resist the temptation and just not go through with it. No doctor is going to prescribe you cannabis oil (which has been known to actually destroy skin cancer) in the vast majority of countries.

You're right about the larvae, though.

@Marburg: consumerism is just another part of nature. Everything needs to consume something to sustain its life, we humans just really overdo it. Most of us do it. The fact that we are spending a good amount of our spare time playing video games is, again, another form of mindless insanity. But we do it because it delivers some kind of pleasure. Often we compare ourselves to the fauna or even flora, but we never ask 'what if they had egos like we do?'. They'd probably do the same. I've seen how a gang of chimps literally tears apart another chimp and then cannibalize on it, just to prove a territorial point. At least animals don't imprison other animals when they murder each other (and no, it's not always for food).

Faceless corporations are easy to blame for a lot of the sh*t that's going on today, I hate them too, but we can't deny the fact that they work through our provided assistance. This is what I like about today - society now has an actual voice (social networking) and it seems that most of the youth has gone pro-eco, which is great. If you come visit my country (Bulgaria), you will observe insane politics as well. I doubt there are many other countries where the ruling body of the country is an ex-firefighter and private bodyguard. He runs the whole police state and newspapers address him by his first name.

Furthermore, as brutal and ugly wars are - without them the population will overflow immensely. If our kind wasn't so self-centered perhaps this could be avoided. Technological development could just happen for all of us, instead of it being kept for private warfare and eventually released for civilian use after years have passed and it has gotten obsolete.

Nevertheless, materialism is definitely killing our creativity, which really sucks.
