I understand some peoples point of views as ID Cards are not your ID's. ID cards are a form of identity, with a picture of your character, who you work for and things like that. I am sure alot of people with real life work have had to have some form of identity card before for security locks and things. Similar thing. The ID's in game do not do this, all ID's ingame show are ooRP description, which has your Rep Hack, Tech Compatability, there is nothing inRP about an ID.
People talk about writing a story to your enemy at war when infact, who says you need to do that. I had a conversation with RNS and IDF in Tau 23 for atleast 15 minutes before even shooting, we were taunting each other, and actually having roleplay which lead to fights.
The people who saying oh 10 seconds roleplay is fine, 2 lines roleplay is fine before engagements are being stupid to be honest. Like if you are happy with these really short interactions which are causing toxic and salty behavior then so be it. But with the disable and removal of set messages roleplay has improved already, but there is still the metagaming part of this which comes via the ID.
Again ID's only have ooRP description where as IFF tell you everything you need to know about a character as what faction they fly for, then scan there ship out they are flying a BAF Templar with BAF IFF he must be a Armed Forces pilot, already there is more RP there then oh BAF Templar. Hi and fly passed.
