Remember that at first the player list didn't even exist. It only became a thing when Cannon brought it to life. It's merely a service to the community, not a requirement we have to provide.
For years it was used reasonably (note the reasonably), it's only for the past two years or so some people have went out of their way to track and harass specific players every single time they logged, up to making bots dedicated to harassment. It became even worse these past few months. That's not something that can be allowed hence why this slight change was asked to be performed as a trial, if need be we can adjust the region description.
Cloudflare will stay though. I rather give access to the JSON feed to people I can trust with it.
