You are... not going to assassinate the Fleet Admiral, are you?
What are you on about, Commander?
Didn't you record every tiniest security detail of her quarters aboard the Suffolk?
Kaze raises an eyebrow and looks around if the guards aren't alerted.
Recorded? What...
Kaze's face was the testament of the realization of something she had not foreseen.
Do you know anyone else with such a camera that you have in your eye?
She growls in a whisper.
Hall.
French asks in a tone as conspicuously as his cluelessness. He has one?
Kaze opens her eyes in a warning gesture.
Are you daft, man?
I found the video on his office computer, above a file called "List of Assassins".
Kaze was about to open her mouth when she heard the footsteps of a guard coming down the ship. She kept quiet, and so did French, looking down. Eyeing his back, Kaze whispered to him.
Hall uses everyone. He sees me as a tool, Commander. When I am anything but.
I've noticed. I've come here to find you and... What in the Taus are you doing here?
Infiltrating the planetary HQ here and plant a listening device. On Hall's orders.
She pauses to think.
Again, terribly sorry for blowing your cover. But you have done it, haven't you?
Yes, I have.
She looks around. And even in the small shaking of the vessel, the guards are chatting with each other with only one traveling back and forth.
So, you came to find me. Here I am.
I thought that you and Hall worked for the Gauls. At least your mission was for Bretonia. And me... I'm betraying my realm. In a way. No one knows I'm here.
His face suddenly takes the form of an idea bulb, but a very cold one. His whisper suddenly explodes like a tree in autumn and in a hurricane. Turn away from me right now! Turn!
Dagon looks at the man and nods in a negative fashion.
Be quiet and be still. They will see us moving. What is your idea now, Commander?
French continues less conspicuously, but as nervously as before. He can see us! Turn away!
She glares and turns, hoping this idea panned out.
Don't you know that he can see everything you see with that eye? At this very moment?
Kaze sighs at the man and turns back to him. Her right eye closed.
There. Enough for you?
I heard no sound in that video. I suppose he can't hear us speak....
He tries to move a bit closer to Kaze so he can whisper.
I've come here to inform the resistance that you might assassinate O'Brien, so they can arrest you as a suspect before Hall meddles his fingers. But I got caught by the frogs instead.
They immediately look down and stop talking as they hear a guard coming closer. Taking a glance at his distancing back, French continues.
Look, I can't just trust you because you're not working for the frogs. But it doesn't make sense to lie now, on your terminal journey. You are Hall's right arm. It would benefit you if he became the Fleet Admiral. And I've heard that you used to be a Reaver. Is that true?
Kaze raises an eyebrow and looks around for the guards. Keeping track of the enviroment is the first step to control it.
Yes, it is true, Commander. And I beg to differ. I am not his right arm. For I am more viable to hit the man than to help him. What I do.. Is for Bretonia.
Why does a Reaver do anything for Bretonia?
Kaze keeps tabs on the walking by guard and lowers her head to look downtrodden. She then whispers.
It's home, Commander. My home.
Then why did you take contracts against us in the first place?
Her head turned to French with a glare.
I did not. I was never the owner of the Company, and I never hunted in Bretonia. I did it elsewhere. And most of my jobs weren't even about hunting people.
The ship shook slightly, and Kaze grinned. Time was almost out.
As if it even matters. Both of us are soon probably going to end up in some mine. Do you know why I am inquiring you at all?
Kaze nodded negatively. French grinned as well, although he was perfectly ignorant of what Kaze was waiting for. He continues, seemingly devoid of any fear of Kaze's command authority over him.
In case that we end up in the same mine, so I could point at you and laugh if you truly were going to kill O'Brien. But I suppose I'm not going to have that pleasure, nor any...
His grin melancholically melted away like an old woman's breasts. Kaze raised her head and smirked at French. Something was not normal on that woman, French thought. The patrolling guard stopped at their front and started to demand an explanation. French quickly lowered his head in compliance, but Kaze's voice rang.
We are not heading to a mine, Commander. Fear not. But hold on tight.
As she spoke those words, the vessel shook something fierce throwing the guards off their feet. Emergency lights and a infernal alarm noise filled the vessel. Kaze, taking advantage of the fact, used her bionics and ripped free from her chains in mere seconds. With a strong pull, she grabbed hold to the guard in front of her and relieved him of his side arm, which then used on the two guards that were at the end of the transport bay. Energy blasts came towards her, only to find the meat shield she had in her front.
