As a casual browser of the wiki since ~2008, I loved 101st's article
Of course, I also thought that Northern Compact > Southern Alliance, so...
Point is, [101st] occupies that hallowed spot in my heart next to the Phooms, the Keepers, and Salazar Kithe, that handsome rogue. That era of Disco is over.
To wit, [101st] was always a tight-knit group of fighter pilots independent of the Maltese chain of command. Then a sufficient portion of the dons got together and decided that now they have entire fleets of capital vessels at their commands, what need have they of a band of Sabres? If anything, the moment |+| reformed into NC-, that was the death knell of [101st].
Basically, [101st] is pushing the adolescent "We can take on the world and win" attitude, and NC- is the businessmen - the true power behind Malta. "While your contributions are appreciated, now is the time for you to either join us or perish."
Perhaps [101st] would have survived as an elite corps of fighters explicitly subordinate to the National Council, but their independent streak damned them in the eyes of the Malteste business machine.
