Faction Information

Deep Space mining focuses on mining Silver Ore and can mine Copper Ore too. We use sophisticated cutting edge technology along with up to date modern machinery.
The mining isnt the only DSM function as it can also provide transport operations and building stations. Jump gate and trade lane parts delivery is also within our domain.
Our pilots have spent many hours traversing asteroid belts and fields, so they are pretty hefty at maneuvering large ships, through them.

Elysium

Built in 824 A.D. in side a dense asteroid field, Elysium stands as a main base of operations for DSM, It is formed of the strongest Reinforced alloy in Sirius. The Strontium and Poly-duranium are infused through out the stations infrastructure to form a very solid bulk. The station also has many lightings on the surface for better positioning of the landing transports and traders alike. When observed it is almost shaped like a hammer

The entrance in the front is made of transparent Cobalt Thorium which makes authorized ships able to pass but also protects the stations inside from heavy space pressure, The left wing contains mining equipment and raw ore storage silos and the right one's purpose is ship storage and maintenace.
The middle of the station are Headquarters offices, rooms, a dining hall.
In the back of the middle part is Rest and Relaxation facilities which are an amazing feat of modern technology.
Since the company's moto was always:
" Keap the staff and workers happy as much as possible, and they will give their maximum effort on the job "

The most prominent of those R&R facilities are the Metro Bar and " Neutron Star " Spa.

Metro Bar

When DSM staff and workers have done there daily jobs and obligations, they want to relax, have something to drink and share what was going on during the work time or at home. Well, there are few places like the Metro. The accessories positioning is perfect and the lights are on the spot, making the bar look like something from their wildest dreams

And on top of that, there is a sweet spot in the Metro for the families and the love crazed romantics that makes them feel just right. Where bartenders always stand service to indulge those crazy love birds. It is in a special section of the bar and has diffrent mood music and one can order food there too. Cakes that are heart shaped, Elysium special " the miners lovequet ", which is basically served with many exotic dishes from all around Sirius. The romantic one's also have more privacy there since the tables are a bit farther away from on another

The " Neutron Star " Spa

Now this intalation within the station is a true jewl. The Neutron Star Spa is the place where workers come on a day to day basis, in order to relax every inch of their tired bodies. The most commonly found people in the Spa are the Elysium residents, coming and going traders and Commonswealth folk, who have a special dispensation on the base.
The Neutron Star is some 300 square maters large and contains some of the most beautiful Spa accessories in Sirius. Only the most light waterproof materials were used in its construction. The lightings are spread across the instalation to create a place where everyones imagination can run wilde
It is a common saying on Elysium that if you exit the spa with any kind of bad feeling following you, there is a mental issue that you have to deal with.

Infused with blue and white neon lights stretching along the slick fiber glass walls are a sight to remember, so many traders and delegations find it very difficult to leave the station

Of course the Metro bartenders ar in constant circulation through the Neutron Star spa, meaning that all of the visiters always have their glasses full of some rich flavored drink. Most of the visitors consist of DSM workers and their famiies but there is an ocassional Commonswealth folk as well as some visiting traders

Reinforced Alloy Type-01 Suite

As stated before, the left stations wing contains ore silos and all the necessary mining equipment. It is all up to date, state of the art equipment made with efficiancy and durability in mind so the workers can preform their duties at the highest degree possible. With large mining operations there is no margin for error so everything is a top level build.

First and foremost is the level of protection for the miner himself. In order for the best miner protection a specialized suite was designed by the DSM engineering department. It is designed to protect the wearer from all known radiation types as well as some level of pressure. The suite is infused with micro thin layers of Reinforced Alloy which are pressed together to form a tight but also relativly light piece of workers suite, Inside the suite there is a concentration of small tubes for water consumption, and another concentration of tubes for liquid excression. Bellow are the examples of male and female mining suites currently in use by DSM miners.

Also an emphasize was put on the mobility of the user since a miner has to be in top agility and form in order to preform his work without errors. Upon signing as a miner in the DSM, each worker is issued one of the Light Reinforced Alloy type 01 suites, which he then cleans and regulates himself. A brief course is attended by a worker in order to gain knowledge of the suites maintanance. After that there are several courses with length diffrences about the rest of the mining equipment.

SMM type Z-377

Next piece of mining machinery is a Stationary Mining Mechanoid type Z-377. It is only used on extra large asteroids which canot be broken down in to little pieces by regular Mining Arrays. This massive mechanoid is delivered to a large asteriod by a transport vessel and then assembled to form a self operating rock cutting system. The assembly itself does not take much time and it can be in operation within one hour after deployment. Then when the instalation is set all the miners have to do is input a program and the mechanoid operates on a pre set course.
After the mechanoid has cut the asteroid in to smaller pieces the miners then take over with their hand used mining equipment.
The SMM type Z-377 is 65 feet in height with a diameter of 70 feet. The base of the mechanoid is made of Duranium plates which can withstand asterod tremors. Attached to the base is a crane with navigational sensors and an Optronic laser targeting system. The system is used to navigate a Thorium Cobbalt saw since most asteroids contain floating frozen mist where human eye navigation would be next to impossible.

A maximum of 3 cranes cam be assemled on the mechanoids base platform in order for the operation to proceed as fast as possible. After the operation is done, the mechanoid is then redeployed on a difrent location on the asteroid. With an equipment like this a giant asteroid can be cut and proccessed with in a week. Albeit there arent many asteroids large enough for the mechanoid to be in use much, the Elysium still currently uses 2 such systems. The last operation was 45 days ago when a giant silver containing asteroid was discovered in Vespucci's Sonora Ice Field. The operation took 5 days and was complimented by a total of 17 workers.

Orions Arm SW-1

Afer the SMM Z-377 has done its job of cutting the large asteroids surface in to smaller pieces, the workers come in to the picture with a hand held mining array. The Orions Arm SW-1 is a hand held laser that shoots small asteroids superheating them until the rock desintegrates and the remaining silver is then sucked in to the tool via a concetrated backflow array. It works on a double laser principle. First the asteroid gets superheated by a regular mining laser, than after the desired temparature is reached and the rock starts to desintegrate s small inbuilt processor recieves the heat information signal and automatically engages the backflow collector laser, thus extracting the remaining material - silver.

The SW-1 has petty strong laser technology so in order to prevent miner injury it also has an inbuilt anti-organic targeting system which basically makes it unable to hit organic tissue and living creatures. In other words if pointed in to anything living and fired, the targeting system scatters around and blocks the tool from firing, thus making it completly injury safe. The mining laser also has to be maintained on a weekly basis, mostly cleaning and changing the coolant unit which has a short life span of aproximately 10 days.
The tool itself is made of Poly-Duranium super alloy, making it extremely light and user friendly, however because of the materials used in its construction, it is prone to damage if not properly handled and maintained. In the back of the tool is a container that can storage up to 4 LBS of unprocessed silver. When filled, the miner turns on the switch on the back side and fires in special mobile containers where silver is then deposited..

X-3 Hold Unit

The X-3 Hold Unit is a silo that was first engineered by professor Max Heller in 822 A.S. After only a year in use by a few trade groups, the silo has proven its superiority over other similar containers. On the inside of the casing it is covered by super light Gadolinium. Gadolinium is a rare, silvery-white metal that is both ductile and malleable. When included in alloys, less then one percent Gadolinium content can reduce high temperature oxidation of the alloy. It has no large scale applications, but is used in some highly specialized processes like silver storing.
The casing itself is Reinforced Alloy and the outer part of it is covered by a thin layer of Ablative Armor Plating. This combination of materials used makes it extremly sturdy and ensures the highest quality storage for unprocessed silver.
The silo itself is massive, boasting some 35 feet in height and 17 feet wide.

This massive beast can store up to 35.000 LBS of raw material like silver.
DSM currently uses 2 of these babbies and furthermore, an official request is in process for yet a third one.

EL-HiL27 "Rhino" Liberty Freighter

Other medium and small size asteroids can be mined by regular mining ships designed to fulfill this purpose. Ships like Arrastra and Hegemon are also used but within DSM the most comonly used ship is - EL-HiL27 "Rhino" Liberty Freighter.

With the economic foundation of Sirius firmly built on Liberty's commercial interests, the Rhino certainly lives up to its name. The vast cargo hold is the hallmark of this impressive beast, surrounded by doubly reinforced structure and protective armor hull. It also uses backflow mining array for silver ore gathering and with the massive cargo hold it performs its role admirably. The agility of the ship is impressive so in combination with some fightercraft turrets it can also preform reconnaissance missions if such a need arises.

This ship serves as a backbone for many other corporations as well, so DSM is not an exception, since the ship is cheap and reliable. As miners would say " The best bang for your buck "
