Character background:
I suppose the most important thing you could know about me is that I am, chiefly, a team player. When I was a younger lad kicking my can on New London, I had my sights set on Her Majesty's Armed Forces, but, well, we'll just say that "family matters" closed that door to me. Not to be deterred, I earned my wings in the Police Authority instead, and man, I had a tight squadron. We'd bin smugglers and pirates like nobodies business, and always shared a good round after. Some of the best folks I've had the pleasure of sharing space with. I'd probably still be with them if those bloody Gauls didn't swoop into Leeds and make a mess of things. I ended up on the receiving end of an honorable discharge after a nasty bit of business with them. The others weren't so lucky.
Following that, I've been freelance shipping ever since I moved to Liberty. On my own at first, living out of my Clydesdale, but I made some contacts while working there, and they were sensible enough to help me finance a proper transport and hire a solid crew. We've been running this way for the last three years, flying a Serenity-class transport under the designation "Broadway", which I found to be a suitably Libertonian designation. The shipping lanes have been good to us, and we've raked in a solid living working together, which as a captain I am immensely proud to say.
Motivation for joining Gateway:
Here's the reason that me and the lads are not perfectly content with the above situation: a "solid living" is hardly enough scratch for any veteran spacer! We had an alright reputation, but there's only so much that a respectable individual will trust to some freelancer crew, and that limits our potential earnings. So my second officer suggested I look into signing us on with a corporation. Now, I wasn't about to give some corp like Ageira or Daumann the benefit of our prided workmanship. No, I'd only sign on with a proper Bretonian company. I've not forgotten what team I play for on the grand scale, especially with the Gauls still bearing down on our House. I've seen how BMM operates though, and they make me sick to my stomach, I say! I'll admit that I considered Bowex, too, but I must say that flying for the underdog in this feud you chaps have been keeping up is a mite more interesting to me personally, not to mention that we have a lot to gain from your connections. It's in that spirit that I put forth the request that you enlist myself and my crew into the employ of Gateway Shipping's logistics division. Profits await, after all.
