You can trust Dieter to get bellow the radar of forum politics. Never seen a thread about an imported clan get past post #5 without signs of smoke.

As I told him in game, a good rule for life and social interactions: When you're the new guy somewhere, STFU! And this is not meant as something rude, this is something I apply myself to great success. Once you get the hang of how things are supposed to be done, then perhaps you can go about contributing to it. The one incident I've heard about was a blatant disregard to that useful rule.

When I first came here I came invited by an old friend of mine. He had been playing for some one or two weeks before we (me and the rest of our friends) stormed Disco (or so we thought at the time). We used to play under the old Neutral ID so we could just go about cooperative PvE. Of course, after we discovered the advent of trading, being numerous as we were, we started helping each other go up the transport ladder. Transport > Whale (when it still had 2000 something cargo) > CT (the flying fortransport).

I remember flying around my Talon (I fear trying too hard to remember it's loadout*), under a Mercenary ID (I was the first one to get out of the Neutral ID pseudo-blanket). Sure, we started seeing the big ships and we were making ridiculous amounts of money for the time (this is before battleship license and battleships cost around 200 million, I guess). Soon everyone was talking about getting Battlestars, Nomad Battleships and the sort.

We are close friends IRL (not Internet friends), but we have a gaming background between ourselves. Eversince the very first game we all played together (some "Mystical" MUD), we call ourselves the Shadowblades (something similar to a "NPC faction" we adopted from that game back then). We never let go of that name and it kinda identify us today (our major symbol of acceptance of someone new is calling him a Shadowblade). Anyway, while we were gathering the resources to buy some of us his very first battleship, another one started talks about us creating our own SB faction here. I can only attribute it to divine inspiration, but something told me that wasn't really the way to go. I called back to that rule I was talking about and came to the forums.

Then the obscenity of pretty much everything we did came clear to me. I started pointing out to them basically, how ooRP we all were. How we shouldn't be doing this or that, or using that other ship, or this piece of equipment. I ruled out altogether any attempt of a faction of our own, and held everyone's horses on the battleships. While they all calmed down a bit, I was starting to really get involved in the forums. Then I discovered the faction directory, looked around a bit and decided it would be better if we tried that instead. After a month here; due to in game affinity, interest in their RP (TBH vs RM was freaking happening) I chose RM as my first faction. The words from my RM application reflect well my thoughts back then:

This is not the first time I play Freelancer online though. I've played it when the game was released, but eventually it got old for me and I've never played it since. Me and a group of friends (half a dozen or so) started playing the game again here on Discovery. Since we were all excited about the game and there were a few of us, we figured, let's start our own faction. But after playing on the server for a while I figured we'd be better off joining the existing factions than creating yet another one (Personally, I like the idea of fewer stronger and more active factions than a bunch of two player "dying" clans).

Well, to cut the story short, from that original group of people I'm the only one that has ever got involved in the forums, I am the last one still standing here in Disco, and I got the golden opportunity to get involved and contribute with two successful factions here.

Just thought it made sense pointing all this out here...

I do miss the time when Disco seemed overwhelmingly huge. When successfully cutting through the Wilden blockade to reach Rheinland was an accomplishment in itself. The game seems much smaller now.:(

On a side note: We should contact Chakotay every time someone new comes here. The man freaking knows everyone from everywhere!:)

* My original Talon loadout was 2 Coladas + 4 Nomad Blasters. Accidentally I was so so within RP. Maybe the Mercenary ID was questionable, but then again that wasn't so glaring.
