Consciousness flooded back like a slow tide, bringing with it the sensation of a heavy weight. Everything felt cold and, with that, came a panic of drowning.
Eyes slowly cracked open to a harsh light surrounded by a pool of black, each raspy exhale produced a thick fog across his vision. Instinct filled lungs once again, but felt no relief from the dull panic of drowning beneath black waves. Something reached across the light and the world shuddered before once again becoming still.
Lungs attempted one more breath and the world went dark.
