Operatives.
With the success of Project Basilisk, I'm going to start shifting attention to a smaller, more focused background project that I initiated halfway through Basilisk's time in the spotlight. This initiative, codenamed 'Lansing', is an attempt to counter Gallia's heavy use of the 'Perilous'-class gunboat that we're more than well aware of by developing a hybrid between the famous 'Archer'-class Siege Cruisers in our force and the reliable 'Defiant'-class gunboats that have supported out warships in numerous engagements.
The data currently surrounding this prototype class of vessel is small in size as is, though the technical layouts and projected personal information has been compiled and will be placed ahead of the packet containing the main centralized portion of this document.
It goes without saying that this project is absolutely top secret, and any information related to this project outside of authorized civilian viewing of tests found outside of the Alaska system, Zone-21 or Zone-63 will be traced. I don't know about you, but I pride myself on my skills at tracing, and anyone found to have leaked information will likely find themselves with a nice prison sentence, among other things.
Project Lansing is an endeavor to create a hybrid class of vessels unique to the Liberty Navy, in that they would be classed as light destroyers. This new vessel, dubbed the 'Sumner'-class, will be a set of heavy gunboats/light cruisers that would fit into the destroyer category planned ot act as reconnaissance and supporting warships for the Fleet's main heavy hitters.
Armament
The proposed loadout for this vessel would be a large allotment of gunship turrets (about eight to be exact) and a single cruiser-based turret to act as a pseudo main battery. The main selling point of the ship would be the two perpendicularly mounted side-axle torpedo launchers built into the hull which sound be fired at any vessel, structure or body within the missile's range. A very heavily armed warship, and a homage to the old days.
Other Details
So far, this class of vessel is still in planning, and no structural base has been started, although there is a small Defiant-class gunboat (L.N.S. Jasmine Creek [GB-384]) being worked on in the small drydock at Juneau. Project Lansing is planned to finish with three vessels rolling off the line, each with their own division to be assigned to.
The L.N.S. Stanly, planned to be an open warship to be commanded by any ranking officer in the fleet who holds command of cruisers or similar vessels, and is slated to be equipped with heavy ordinance launchers in addition to standard torpedoes.
The L.N.S. Johnston, similarly planned to be an open warship, this vessel was to be designed to more effectively use it's main and secondary batteries for offensive use against gunships and small cruisers.
The L.N.S. Laffey is the third and final planned Sumner-class destroyer slated to be commanded by Commander Fredrick Becton who has served the R&D department faithfully through the turmoil of Project Basilisk. He will be given personal command of the warship, and his Executive Officer, chosen by him, is slated to be Lieutenant Commander Michael J. Prowley, who has himself worked hard to be given the honor.
This is all of the information available on Project Lansing at this moment. More information will be available once the Project is underway.
