Subject: Transportation/Mining report
My first task of the day was to mine the Sonora field as has been the routine for quite some time. After making a trip I decided to take my transport for a cargo run. Not being given the trade routes I was left to my own devices to figure out what I was going to do, I decided to run a load of boron from Pittsburgh to New London. Shortly after I ran into a pirate at West Point Academy who demanded $5 million. I tried to bargain him down since that would mean not making a profit or even taking a loss on this run, and the cost of repurchasing my cargo and the repair nanobots and batteries would be substantially less than paying the amount demanded. He refused to come down so I felt I had no other choice but to risk an engagement which I eventually lost. What was disturbing about this incident was how astonishingly ineffective the Liberty Navy 5th fleet was. There were multiple fleet elements in the system and yet such a brazen act of piracy could still occur anyway near one of the Navy's key installations. I would strongly advise filing a complaint with the Liberty Navy regarding it's failure to control piracy in it's home system, they aren't being paid to loaf about polishing the hulls of their shiny new ships while Liberty taxpayers are getting mowed down by bloodthirsty pirate scum.
While I was waiting for the transport to be rebuilt I did another mining run in Vespucci, which was successfully completed without incident.
