In normal view, the rocks Im supposed to shoot tend to dissapear, before I can turn towards them. In cockpit view it is deffinitely better, but the slow turning speed means less rocks to shoot. Also it seems that only 2 turrets are hitting the rocks most of the time. I guess this is turret placement issue.
I understand, that due to the cargo hold size, the mining speed has to be slower for balance reasons. But this seems just too much.
I use Hegemon with only 2 mining turrets, as you can only get two of them perfectly aligned for multiple hits. Use Dulzian transport turrets on other slots for increased defense capabilities. Go to cockpit view, disable "Cockpit" in options, push reverse and shoot around. Your transport will move in reverse circles, pretty much staying at same spot and you'l have most "rocks" on the screen as you'l move with increased speed trough the field. In my opinion, Hegemon is something new player should use, but not senior players. It is begineer-friendly as it has decent hold - the ability to mine alone. But Hegemon is far from being a decent mining vessel. The Rock Badger is definately better, as it is smaller, more agile, has same hold, and it has 4 aligned turrets ( 1 2 5 and 8 slots ). Tho, I believe it is only usable on GMS and EFL IDs and other IDs could be seen as abuse, as 10% powercore doesnt stop you from mining.
In my opinion, the Salvager is an big improvement from the Hegemon. It has 4 turrets, a lot larger hold ( 3350 ) and increased defense, as it has gunboat powercore and 7 gunboat turrets. It is also much smaller and more agile. The 4 5 6 and 7 slots are perfectly aligned and when you finish mining, you can switch them for gunboat turrets on nearest station ( keep the mining turrets unmounted, switch them for GB turrets when you need them ). The Premium scrap to Gamma and Artifacts back to Liberty is perfect route for experienced players as you can afford the Salvager ( 130m ship and equipment ) and can easily find a decent route for smuggling Artifacts and not getting caught. The profit is great, as you can earn 11080$ per unit for Scrap and 6500$ per unit of Artifacts back.
As for ideal mining ship, I believe it is Surveyor LF. It has 5 aligned mining turrets and its small size makes the mining easier. I use it for Uncut diamonds mining and I can fill up 5000 cargo in less than 4-5 minutes. Tho, as it is a light fighter, you need a friend to help you out. You fill him up, he jettisons the cargo, you fill him up again, switch to your transport, come to him and tractor in the jettisoned cargo. 10 minutes for filling you both and moving on.
