I do not quiet undestand, why disabling "Cockpit" will help, if you are using turret mode. How can you even align the mining arrays in turret mode? Maybe you meant "normal" (default 3rd person) mode?
I usually fly Surveyor or Rhino with 15m forward speed and mouse turning/shooting alot.

I agree, that Hegemon is more suitable for new players, as they usually do not have much mining experience to compare.
Rock Badger? It might be better stat wise, but the cloud comming out of top and bottom and those sparks on the rear "Rock"? No thank you, any other ship than that. Well, maybe except Annapurna, which is even worse in this regard. I can fly these two ships only in cockpit view, otherwise my eyes hurt.

Deffinitely, I have not found any better ship for team mining. For Gallia, there is Tournez, which seems to be basically the same thing (5 turrets and 45hold).
