Good news! Our Research & Development teams on Nichols have, with the help of our friends from PlanetForm Inc., finished the first phase of the Nichols Upgrade Project. We can continue with Phase 2, the construction of first prototypes, at any time. Just like in Phase 1, it will require our pilots to bring ressources to our institutions on Planet Gran Canaria, Grand Vista Orbital and Lanzarote Station.
Of course I won't spare you the actual results of Phase 1. While the idea at first was only to make the station self-sustaining, we also added a few other necessary extensions mentioned on the Nichols Upgrade to-do list. As for example, a small repair dock for ships of gunboat- and transport size. This will greatly help with the maintenance of our fleet, as we won't have to bring transports to Livadia or other shipyards for major repairs and don't have to haul gunboats from the planetary spaceport up in space and vice versa. Note, the repair bay is too small for Aquilon-class carriers or bigger ships. Those can only be repaired remotely.
But let pictures talk for themselves.
Those pictures are from the simulation. You can see the three major extensions to the station. The lower extension contains the water purifier and the oxygen recycling system, the new central segment adds a few cargo compounds as well as the repair dock and a landing pad with mooring fixture, and then of course we have the new bio-dome. The design is unique and combines efficiency and design. The bio-dome also offers a very nice view on Canaria, however, since we intended the dome to support the station with food generation, it won't offer any means for tourism. For that we have the goold old Grand Vista Orbital.
Phase 2 will start very soon. I'm glad I can coordinate this without troubles from here on Freeport 11.
