Freeports are defenseless, but between OSI and IRG there is enough tech and credits to defend each and every one of them. Not to mention the fact that each Freeport has its own assets and credits. Moreover, it's not like someone is going to launch a synchronized attack on every Freeport. How hard can it be to have some defense ships? How hard can it be to have a MK4 and one Hyperspace Beacon on each Freeport...
