"We're going to get the IRG cell sometime soon. So I'd want you to see how it can be implemented. Check the connections and such." "Gotcha G. We'll take the thing apart." Garrus left the hangar as fast as he entered it. The mechanics continued to deconstruct the Guardian, removing part by part, carefully inspecting them. They started to mark the quality of the parts in three categories, 'Surplus', 'Standard' and 'Good Quality'. After they were done with the marking, they brought it to a separate location, sorting them after quality.

Several weeks passed with only slow progress due to the low priority of the project and Garrus eventually lost track of the current status. Although at some point they had the ship completely dismantled, each part was taken apart and sorted into one of the three categories. As Garrus came back from one of his test flights, in which he nearly lost 'Hope's Guardian', the project was stopped completely. With the need to replace vital components the mechanics started to use some of the high quality parts from the Surplus-Guardian. Those parts were mostly electronics and life support systems that had to follow a certain standard within Liberty. Getting the call from Garrus to repair 'Hope's Guardian', they only had the possibility to cannibalize the Surplus and keep the good parts. Eventually the pile with the good parts got smaller and smaller and eventually vanished.

They weren't able to fix the ship though and had problems repairing it to a usable standard. The main problems were the lack of replacement parts and the lack of knowledge. As Garrus got note of that, he thought about getting help. Due to the matter that he didn't acquire 'Hope's Guardian' legally, or at least due to the fact that it is not legally registered, he wasn't able to contact any Libertonian organizations. He did however consider jumping in with the Hellfire legion, since they agreed, alongside with Auxesia, to refit the Thanatos cruiser they obtained from the Crayterians. Although giving it a second though he decided to not take this route, since he did not want risk running into the fact that he might end up using tech from Hellfire that might get him into trouble while hunting in Liberty.

After some consideration he decided to contact the Core and it's subdivision the APM to ask if they might be able to help him refit the ship. In addition to that, he asked for a new set of weapons, namely some Reaver MKIIs to be installed on his ship. Additionally he took the risk and asked them if they are able to change the digital serial number of the chassis to reflect the one that is registered. He figured that they might be able to do so, since they're the ons building ships and weapons for the core and might use the same or at least a similar technology themselves.

Reaching out to the Core, they accepted to help Garrus and his crew to overhaul the ship, as long as he brings both Guardians to Dagger Station in Omega 55. Garrus is now going to repair 'Hope's Guardian' alongside the Core, installs the IRG powercell and configures the ship for the usage with the cell and the variety of technology used on the ship. The weapon loadout of two experimental codename pulse guns with four Core weapons mounted on a Libertonian ship is not something you see too often amongst the ranks of a Mercenary organization.
