I apologize to anyone who has had a bad experience with us RP-Wise thus far. I know I make it a personal habit to role play with any ships that are around me as much as I can.
As for the trader who got blown away for not having enough credits, or any credits he could spare.. He could have offered up some of his cargo, maybe bots/bats to the pirates so they wouldn't have had to fly so far away to a friendly unlawful base to restock, anything. If you were truly in a life or death situation with someone holding a gun to your head would you simply say ''Hey man, I don't have it..'' or would you start emptying out your pockets to save your life? If I was that trader knowing full well I had no money for them, I would have started bargaining my butt off for my life unless I felt I could have defeated them. But that is me. So it could have been a lack of role play that forced that situation. Remember role play is built by all parties involved so don't expect a pirate to sit there and start going down a list of things every time you get stopped. -You- are the one who is spooked and caught, not him. Make a deal with the devil and try to save your own life.
I know not all of our members are deeply into role play and we have been working on this and trying to stress this. Sometimes we do not even speak to people in open comms because we are trying to get to a certain location and then role play. It is a bit much to have to stop for every hostile on the way to liberty to give a show cause of role play or where ever else you are going and sometimes we are very busy talking in group. We do try to role play as much as possible though which is not as much as I can say for other groups -
LN - Leave or die, then they either never come and find you or they show up in a battleship over two or three fighters.
Rheinland Groups - I passed by with our CLAN ARMORY. Unchallenged, full outcast reputation flashing, 10 or so Rheinlanders just sitting there. I even spoke in system chat several times entering the system and going through. Completely unchallenged using the trade lanes. I was not even acknowledged. You would have thought an enemy armory on it's way to a destination would be about the highest value target of a faction.
I could go on with my examples of deficient role play. I'm sure there are reasons here and there, some may be excuses. Some people are busy in group or already have things on their plate they are trying to accomplish, just like us at some points.
We are working on some of our members role play though, and at times we are not fully involved in the server's role play as we are trying to establish ourselves. This takes time with members. Talking to them. Delegating tasks. Advising them on what equipment they need and all sorts of things. When we are a little more established, we will be full on with our role play and a lot less distracted by trivial things of getting our group in order. The already established groups, it's just another day for them. Everything is in order, things are where they need to be, taking on that one new recruit isn't as difficult for them or nearly a strain on their resources, and really it's just routine for them.
I have brought my clan back from the dead from 1 year ago when I had to leave for the Army and accomplished so much in simply 3 weeks, if that. So rest assured, the ESS will be better by leaps and bounds in our role play stature once we have had a little more time and are a little more settled. By the time we submit an official faction request - We will be ready and not a moment sooner.
