I just concluded my conversation with Commander Stenn of the Forlorn who approached me a few hours ago outside Manhattan. I informed the leader of the Forlorn that we have few people that we can call upon for help and support within Rheinland space; Forlorn rarely ventures there and the local law enforcement usually ignores our emergency calls. He told me that Forlorn rarely operates in Rheinland space because his application was turned down.
Subsequently I ran an idea with him; Forlorn will set up an emergency dispatch wing in New Berlin which can help USI convoys in difficult situations. However to avoid Rheinland's legal repercussions they will be named and contracted as "escorts" for all intends and purposes. He accepted my proposal and vowed to make this happen.
Afterwards we discussed a few other matters. When I asked him about Forlorn's relationship with criminal organizations he said that this is a dangerous question (!) Then he became dodgy and tried to deflect by asking of USI's relationship with the Xenos. I wonder how he got that idea. Anyway in the end he admitted he has a pact with two criminal organizations in Sirius but he reassured me that USI is safe since he apparently never abandons a contract.
I am sure you will find the conversation quite interesting so I am attaching it below.
Forlorn|-Interdictor: Need an escort? [*USI*]Newport[M]: Maybe another time. Forlorn|-Interdictor: No problems. [*USI*]Newport[M]: I don't even know you. Sorry. Forlorn|-Interdictor: USI has a long standing contract with Forlorn. [*USI*]Newport[M]: I like to get to know my escort ships first. Forlorn|-Interdictor: We fly protection for your ships, and you let us use your bases. It's been a mutually beneficial arrangement thus far. [*USI*]Newport[M]: I am well aware. Mr..? Forlorn|-Interdictor: Stenn. Nick Stenn [*USI*]Newport[M]: Nicole Burton, Manager. [*USI*]Newport[M]: I just had some issues with some of my latest escorts. [*USI*]Newport[M]: Including a Forlorn. Forlorn|-Interdictor: A pleasure to meet you. Oh? Forlorn|-Interdictor: Please elaborate? [*USI*]Newport[M]: He made one or two mistakes. He apologized afterwards but fortunately I escaped successfully. [*USI*]Newport[M]: So you understand why I like to get to know my escorts better, right? Forlorn|-Interdictor: You wouldn't be able to provide a name for me would you? [*USI*]Newport[M]: I prefer to err on the side of caution. [*USI*]Newport[M]: I could check my logs if it's so important. I'd rather not something bad come to this man though. Forlorn|-Interdictor: Nothing bad, just another week of training. We're professionals after all, and the last thing I need is someone who isn't up to standards flying around. [*USI*]Newport[M]: So Mr Stenn, are you a Supervisor in Forlorn? Forlorn|-Interdictor: I'm the overall Commander of the Forlorn. [*USI*]Newport[M]: Ahh it's a pleasure to meet the Forlorn commander. Forlorn|-Interdictor: Likewise, Nicole. [*USI*]Newport[M]: So about your query, I could write a message addressed to the Forlorn HC if you want. [*USI*]Newport[M]: Signed with USI insignia and all. [*USI*]Newport[M]: Or a private one to you only, off the records. Forlorn|-Interdictor: Either or. I'm only concerned that an undertrained pilot slipped into active duty, and thats a risk to them and anyone flying with them in combat. [*USI*]Newport[M]: I am more concerned with more serious subjects. Like I've never seen Forlorn operating in Rheinland. [*USI*]Newport[M]: Is that true or it was just a mere coincidence? Forlorn|-Interdictor: I'm sorry, I missed your question? [*USI*]Newport[M]: Uhm. I asked if you're operating in Rheinland on a regular basis. Forlorn|-Interdictor: Ah, no not on a regular basis. Their government has declined to enter a contract with us. Forlorn|-Interdictor: Despite that, we occasionally escort transports through Rheinland, and the like. However, with the strictness of Rheinland laws, we do not linger in their space. [*USI*]Newport[M]: Yes but you see this is a place where we find regularly trouble. [*USI*]Newport[M]: In Liberty there are always Bounty Hunters or Liberty Navy to call upon. In Rheinland, the authorities do not even respond to emergency calls. Because you're Libertonian. Forlorn|-Interdictor: We can arrange pilots to be on site to escort your ships through Rheinland easily enough. [*USI*]Newport[M]: I had a different idea. Forlorn|-Interdictor: However you are not the only ones struggling with Rheinland--- oh? [*USI*]Newport[M]: You could set up a New Berlin emergency dispatch wing to service your partners, like USI. [*USI*]Newport[M]: It won't operate on a regular basis like a Forlorn wing, but for emergencies only. Forlorn|-Interdictor: I see only one problem with that course of action, which I'd be willing to work around. Forlorn|-Interdictor: Rheinland laws see non-registered pilots initiating combats as equally guilty with pirates. So while I will initiate the process to creating this wing, it's likely that sooner or later Rheinland will raise complaints. [*USI*]Newport[M]: But you said there is no problem if you act as convoy escorts [*USI*]Newport[M]: We could call this wing as "escorts" for Rheinland's authorities and laws as far as we're concerned. Forlorn|-Interdictor: That might be the only way to navigate through that piece of red tape. Alright, we'll begin to move assets around. [*USI*]Newport[M]: That's wonderful news Mr Stenn. I will inform my Executives as well. Forlorn|-Interdictor: USI is our oldest contracter. It would be a shame if we left you in a tight spot after all this time. [*USI*]Newport[M]: We're picking up steam lately, so more contracts for Forlorn. It'd be good if you keep up with us as well. Forlorn|-Interdictor: I'll keep that in mind. I'm not sure I follow what you mean by keeping up with you. [*USI*]Newport[M]: Let me try to use less complicated words. Sometimes I forget that I am not talking to a colleague or someone familiar with the subject. [*USI*]Newport[M]: More USI shipping means more escort contracts for our partners, such as Forlorn. So the demand for escort on USI convoys rises but I don't know if Forlorn is equipped and has the resources to satisfy said demand. Forlorn|-Interdictor: Ah I understand. Well, due to the rather... fluid nature of the majority of our contracts, and the rather excessive amounts of targets spread across Bretonia, Liberty, Kusari, Omicrons and Omegas, as well as all of Gallia, you'll find Forlorn ships are active in a massive region, and that we've expanded significantly. However, this leads to regional hunting grounds with pilots favoring certain locations over others. Forlorn|-Interdictor: Our Carrier allows a widescale redeployment of assets when called on, but for the most part, its duo's of pilots that hunt in a sector to control criminal population. [*USI*]Newport[M]: Out of curiosity Mr Stenn, are you hunting all unlawfuls or you have pacts with some of them? Forlorn|-Interdictor: That's a dangerous question. Forlorn|-Interdictor: Do you have any specific groups in mind? [*USI*]Newport[M]: You know there are criminal organizations in all the established Houses of Sirius. [*USI*]Newport[M]: I was referring to those groups. Forlorn|-Interdictor: I'm aware. I was wondering if you had specific groups in mind, given that I'm sure the USI enjoys not being shot by Xeno's, [*USI*]Newport[M]: We are relieved that we're not getting shot, not enjoying it Mr Stenn. [*USI*]Newport[M]: As you're aware these ultranationalists mostly target foreign shipping. [*USI*]Newport[M]: But I understand you don't want to answer my question. Very well. Forlorn|-Interdictor: Anyways. To answer your questions, we treat almost every unlawful element as hostile. Forlorn|-Interdictor: There are two which we do not, but that is subject to their cooperation with us. Should that waver, they're on the list. [*USI*]Newport[M]: Should we expect your escorts to stand down in case of a confrontation? Can you tell us which are? Forlorn|-Interdictor: Forlorn has never, and will never break a contract. Should they engage you, it would be in direct contravention of the agreements, and make them subject to retaliation.
